Band T-shirt Redesign
Case Study
This case study explores the design process of a t-shirt design created for a fictional band of our choosing.
Initially developed as part of a class project, the original design was later refined to more effectively align with the messaging and purpose typically associated with band t-shirts.
Recognizing Weaknesses:
The original design (pictured to the right), initially created a few years ago for a class project, was chosen to represent a fictional band of our selection. However, it didn't fully capture the essence or purpose commonly associated with band t-shirts.
Exploration:
Should the band name/genre be changed?
What is the band's identity or image?
Should the font be changed from the original design?
How should the layout of the song names be done on the back?
Findings:
The band name and genre were both picked through a randomized generator. It is a rock band called Elder Echo.
Their identity will be expressed through a logo that represents their genre.
The font was changed to better fit the essence of rock bands.
The layout on the back of the shirt features the album name and the song names in a stacked list.
To ensure the t-shirt serves its purpose as a band merchandise item, it incorporates key elements such as the band’s logo, album artwork, or iconic imagery. Crafted from comfortable, durable material, the shirt features high-quality print that can withstand repeated washes. Beyond being a comfortable garment, it provides fans with a way to express their connection to the band and its music, reflecting their alignment with a specific community or subculture. The Elder Echo band t-shirt not only delivers on comfort and durability but also symbolizes support and personal identity for the band.
Final Decisions and Mockup:
Disclaimer: This case study is a qualitative descriptive research project intended solely for educational purposes. Elder Echo is not a real rock band.
